V1 Active City Jacket: What We Built and Why It Works in the Rain
Share
There's a particular kind of misery that comes from wearing the wrong jacket in a city downpour. You know the one. You're three blocks from the subway, the rain has gone sideways, and the jacket you grabbed because it looked waterproof is now conducting water directly onto your collar. The hood is decorative. The zipper is soaked through. You're wet in a specific, demoralizing way.
We built the V1 Active to solve exactly that problem — not for a mountain ridge, not for a trail in the backcountry, but for the city. For the commute, the lunch run, the errand that turned into two hours outside, the morning that started dry and ended absolutely not.
Here's an honest breakdown of what's in this jacket, how it works, and what it can't do.

The Membrane: Sympatex Vitoria
The waterproofing story starts with the membrane, and we chose Sympatex Vitoria because it's genuinely good at what a city jacket needs to do.
Sympatex is a German membrane technology with a straightforward mechanical premise: it's a continuous, non-porous film rather than a microporous foam. That matters because there are no microscopic holes to clog with pollution, detergent residue, or urban grime over time. The hydrophilic polymer structure lets water vapor — your body heat and sweat — pass through via molecular diffusion, while liquid water can't get in at all. The result is breathability that holds up through the life of the garment, not just in week one.
The Vitoria variant within the Sympatex family hits a performance tier appropriate for sustained urban rain. This isn't a light shower membrane dressed up with marketing copy. It holds up under real pressure, and it continues to function after repeated machine washing in a way that some microporous alternatives don't.
We also want to be direct about one thing: breathability in any waterproof jacket is real but finite. If you're sprinting to catch a bus in July, you will feel warmth build up. That's physics, not a product flaw. The V1 Active manages it better than most, but we're not going to tell you it breathes like a soft shell.

Weight: 680 Grams
The V1 Active comes in at 680 grams. That's the full jacket weight in a men's medium, and we think it's worth talking about honestly.
680g is not ultralight. If you're comparing spec sheets looking for a 300g packable jacket, this isn't it, and we'd rather tell you that now. What 680g represents in this context is a jacket built with meaningful construction: substantial outer face fabric that handles abrasion from a bag strap or bike lock, structured hood reinforcement, and the kind of internal architecture that holds its shape through daily use in a city environment.
Ultralight jackets are genuinely excellent for specific purposes. They are often not excellent for the daily-use, thrown-in-a-bag, worn-in-the-rain-twice-a-week punishment that a city jacket absorbs. We built for durability over minimum weight.
---Hardware: YKK AquaGuard Zippers
The zipper is one of the most obvious failure points on a waterproof jacket. Water finds zippers. It wicks along the teeth, it pools at the pull, and on a cheap waterproof zip, it comes straight through.
Every closure on the V1 Active uses YKK AquaGuard. This is a water-resistant zip with an internal film barrier that prevents moisture penetration at the teeth interface. YKK AquaGuard is used across technical outerwear from brands at significantly higher price points because it simply works. We're not reinventing zipper technology here — we're using the right hardware.
The chest pocket, hand pockets, and main body zip are all AquaGuard. The interior pocket uses a standard YKK zip because it's already behind a waterproof barrier and there's no functional reason to add cost and weight there.

Seam Tape: Fully Sealed
Stitching holes are where water enters a jacket that uses the wrong construction method. Every stitch through a shell fabric creates a perforation, and without seam tape, those perforations are a direct pathway into the jacket.
The V1 Active uses full seam taping throughout — every seam in the body and hood is sealed with a thermally bonded tape that covers
